67 Year Old Killed 5Month Old Siberian Husky

A 5-month-old Siberian Husky named Sky didn’t stand a chance against her abuser. Police in Niagara Falls, New York say 67-year-old Brian Benjamin killed the sweet puppy with his own bare hands.

Source: Voice For Us/Facebook

Falls Police Animal Control Officer Dave Bower reports the puppy was on a leash in a fenced-in backyard when she began yelping. The owner’s boyfriend went outside to see what was wrong and witnessed a horrible scene.

He saw a man, later identified as Benjamin, standing over Sky, who was unconscious and not moving. The suspect ran from the yard and was later apprehended.

In the meantime, CPR was administered to Sky but she remained unresponsive. Her owner, Melissa Cummings, along with her boyfriend, rushed the dog to a veterinarian where she was pronounced dead.

“She was a loving dog. She didn’t bother anyone,” Cummings Shared. “I just couldn’t believe someone would enter a fenced backyard and do that. She didn’ t deserve that at all.”

A necropsy of the body at Cornell Animal Health Diagnostic Center revealed the cause of death to be severe blunt force trauma.

Benjamin was arrested but Sky’s owner believes he won’t be punished “much at all.”

Our deepest condolences are extended to Melissa Cummings on this tragic loss.

Dogs in US being taught to smell coronavirus in patients

Dogs in the US are being trained to detect Covid-19 in patients, to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

In the trial programme, run by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, eight dogs will be trained over the course of three weeks to sniff out coronavirus from urine and saliva samples.

Dr Cynthia Otto, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, said in a statement, that dogs already have the ability to sniff out other dangerous conditions.

“Scent detection dogs can accurately detect low concentrations of volatile organic compounds, otherwise known as VOCs, associated with various diseases such as ovarian cancer, bacterial infections, and nasal tumours. These VOCs are present in human blood, saliva, urine or breath,” she said.

The study is hoping that dogs will be able to help tackle the pandemic, by identifying coronavirus patients, even if they are asymptomatic.

Dr Otto added that “the potential impact of these dogs and their capacity to detect Covid-19 could be substantial.

“This study will harness the dog’s extraordinary ability to support the nation’s Covid-19 surveillance systems, with the goal of reducing community spread.”

This is not the first study to see if dogs can be trained to smell coronavirus in patients, as in the UK, Durham university, alongside the Medical Detection Dogs charity and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, started research into the possibility last month.

Six dogs are being trained in that programme, and the researchers hope that they will know if they can sniff out Covid-19 in a few weeks.

“A dog is sniffing each person in turn — it takes 0.5 of a second, the dog quickly identifies which people need a test and need to go straight into isolation to prevent the further spread around the UK,”  Dr Claire Guest, the founder of Medical Detection Dogs wrote.

“This would be fast, effective and non-invasive and make sure the limited NHS testing resources are only used where they are really needed,” she added.

Humans Are Wicked: Puppy's Legs And Tail Chopped Off And Left For Dead - Photos

Police Are Looking For The Person Who Chopped Off This Puppy’s Legs And Tail And Left It For Dead.

This story originally appeared at American Web Media.

Turkey’s politics, unfortunately, aren’t any less partisan than those here in the United States. In this case, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hopes to extend his powers even further by jointly holding the roles of president and prime minister.

While supporters cheer and critics rage, a fiercely divided electorate can only agree on one thing. After a small puppy was found in a Turkish forest with his tail and legs cruelly chopped off, politicians on both sides of the aisle are calling for justice.

Animal rights didn’t factor into this campaign before the dog was discovered in Sakarya province. That changed in an instance when images of the poor creature were widely shared online. (The puppy was found alive, but died days later during emergency surgery).

“Whether at home or on the street, we will take the law into consideration and evaluate it,” the president said at a recent rally, noting that a suspect had been charged with a crime. “There is nothing acceptable about this, but it is very important to show this awareness.”

Animal rights groups believe Turkey’s animal welfare laws are too lax, in part because more pressing issues, including its 2-3 year-long “state of emergency,” often demand more immediate attention. Regardless, the government could more easily add such a provision to the constitution and, according to reports, such a proposal is already in the works.

Sadly, Erdoğan has already been caught on tape openly discussing his plans to rig the next election, so we’re not holding our breath that Turkey’s animal welfare rules will change soon.
