Robbers beat California woman, steal her pregnant $7,000 French bulldog

Dog owner Amanda Hightower was attacked moments after she left her home on Teresita Court in Hollister on Thursday morning.

Chilling surveillance video captured the moment two armed men stole a 10-month-old French bulldog after injuring the pooch’s owner in California.

Dog owner Amanda Hightower was attacked moments after she left her home on Teresita Court in Hollister on Thursday morning and then returned for a forgotten item, according to KSBW.

“I surprised them when I had come in the door, so they attacked me, and they kept telling me to stay on the ground, ‘Don’t move!,’ you know, cussing at me, and I was trying to fight back,” she told the news outlet.

Amanda Hightower was beaten and held at gunpoint while robbers stole her pregnant French bulldog.

“I was trying to grab [their] hoodies, and [one of them] got upset, so he hit me with the gun in the face,” Hightower recalled. “I said, ‘Please don’t take my dog, please don’t take my dog!’ ”

Her pregnant bulldog, Milani, has a rare merle coat and is reportedly worth about $7,000.

The two suspects who made off with Milani were driving a silver Chevy Malibu with paper dealer plates from Gold Star Buick GMC in Salinas — but police said they could have been fakes or stolen.

Hightower believes the dognappers cased her home after finding out Milani is pregnant.

“It was posted on my Instagram breeding page, and it was a public page for people to see in case they were interested in any of the puppies, so anybody could have seen it,” she told KSBW of the posting.

Such bulldogs, which are worth between $1,500 and $5,000, have been a favorite target for thieves, most famously when Lady Gaga’s dog walker was shot and her two Frenchies stolen last year.

Can my dog eat egg?

Dogs can have eggs. In fact, they are a wonderful source of protein. And protein is essential for dogs. “Eggs are considered a gold standard because they’re almost the closest you can get to 100 percent complete, as far as protein goes,” Purina Senior Nutritionist Jan Dempsey explains.

ARE EGGS GOOD FOR DOGS?

Yes. Eggs are good for dogs to eat. Of course, they are rich in protein, but aside from that eggs are also a good source of linoleic acid and fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin A. All of these are wonderful for a dog’s skin and coat,” says Dempsey.

ARE RAW EGGS BAD FOR DOGS?

Well raw eggs are not advisable for dogs a they can be a source of Salmonella. Even very clean eggs can have it inside. And as eggs start to go bad, they can grow other bacteria. Some foods can lose nutrients while they are cooked, but the protein in eggs isn’t. Cooking really helps make them more digestible. So however they are prepared–boiled, scrambled, sunny side up–cooked is best for your dog.

ARE EGG SHELLS NUTRITIOUS FOR DOGS?

“Egg shells contain calcium and phosphorus,” says Dempsey. “But there are easier ways to supplement those minerals.” Instead of grinding up egg shells, talk to your veterinarian. She will know if your dog needs something added to his complete and balanced diet.

IS THE CHOLESTEROL IN EGGS BAD FOR DOGS?

You don’t need to worry about cholesterol and your dog. “Cholesterol doesn’t have the same effect in dogs as it is does in humans,” Dempsey explains. “And dogs don’t get to the same cholesterol-related diseases as humans.” That means you don’t need to feed egg whites only. If your dog is taking in too much egg, you will see weight gain due to too many additional calories long before any other issues arise.

CAN DOGS EAT AN EGG A DAY?

Dogs can eat a little bit of egg each day, but it’s important to feed eggs like you would any treat. “Eggs are about 70 calories each, so how much you feed depends on your dog’s size. Keep the 10 Percent Treat Rule in mind. The egg you feed should only make up 10 percent of your dog’s total daily calories. That way he has his complete and balanced meals and no extra calories,” explains Dempsey. And it will help eggs remain a surprise your dog looks forward to receiving.

A kiss of death: Pet owner dies after getting licked by his dog

Image for illustration purposes only.

In a devastating turn of events, a little lick from his dog proved fatal for a 63-year-old man, who died after catching a rare infection from his pet’s saliva. According to news reports, the pet owner was admitted in the hospital after he complained of flu-like symptoms including high fever and muscle aches for three days.

The case study is mentioned in the European Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine.
The man’s condition got significantly worse as he started facing difficulty in breathing and developed painful blisters on his face, excruciating pain and unexplained bruises on his legs. Furthermore, he was diagnosed with severe sepsis as his organs began to fail and he suffered from brain damage.

Ultimately, his skin started to rot away and his liver started shutting down, leading to a cardiac arrest. The cause behind this deadly infection was Capnocytophaga canimorsus, a type of bacteria which can be found in the animal saliva. This fatal bacteria can be spread through bites, scratches or even licks of household cats and dogs.

While most people who come in contact with the Capnocytophaga, bacteria do not fall ill, one can never be too careful. It is also fatal in around 28 to 31 percent of cases

What you need to know
If you feel feverish or develop flu-like symptoms and have a pet at home, pay close attention to whether the symptoms are getting more complicated. The team, led by Dr Naomi Mader, wrote: 'Pet owners with flu-like symptoms should urgently seek medical advice when their symptoms exceed those of a simple viral infection, which in this case were (breathing problems and rash).

Should you let your dog lick you
Pet owners especially dog-lovers often treat their furry family members like their own babies. From talking, hugging to even kissing them, most people love to pamper their four-legged friends.
However, before you let your dog lick you in affection, it is important to understand that there are more than 700 different types of bacteria in a dog's mouth. Although it is highly unlikely, your dog’s disease-carrying saliva can also cause a fatal infection. The risk factor goes up for pregnant women, elderlies, babies and those with a weak immune system.

It is especially important that you steer clear of your pooch’s saliva if you have a wound or a broken skin, as it can be easily absorbed through the open sores.

10 ways to know your dog loves you so much.

Are you a dog owner and you love your dog so much and keep wondering if they love you back? Yes! They do, you can tell if your dog loves you by looking for these 10 common signs of love and affection.

Article outlines:

1. STARRING AT YOU.

Your dog starring into your eyes when you look at them. It's true dogs can’t talk with humans verbally so they use many non-verbal ways of communicating. One of the ways in which dogs show their love is starring directly into your eyes. According to a research published in the journal of Science, dogs develop strong emotional bonds with humans by staring right into our eyes. This non-verbal way of communication increases level of social hormone called oxytocin in both dogs and their owners.

2. RAISES THEIR EYEBROWS

A Japanese researchers filmed the faces of dogs when they saw their owners and when they saw a stranger. The dogs raised their eyebrows when they saw their owner. The stranger just got an ear lift, a sign of doggie caution. Why do they raise their eyebrows? So they can make better eye contact and make those good chemicals that bond the two of you.

3. HE YAWNS AFTER YOU.

Studies have shown that, just like humans, dogs yawn contagiously, but they're more sensitive to the yawns of their owners than strangers. Since contagious yawning in humans is linked to empathy, some scientists believe this might be the case with canines too. A study found that 70 percent of dogs yawned when they watched their owner yawn. It's a sign of emotional bonding between man and dog. Whether you're bored or sleepy, your dog's on board. He feels you.

4. SHE WELCOMES YOU HOME.

The moment you walk through the door after work and she comes doing the 'Happy Dog Dance' You need no science to confirm what your dog is saying. She's excited to see her lovely human, the love of her life. Let the happy yips, raised eyebrows and right-tail wags and barking begin.

5. HE BRINGS HIS TOY/BONE TO YOU.

Yes, dogs are possessive about their bones, toys and other chews. Whenever he brings his toy to you it means he wants to play with you, which is a sign of affection. It may also mean they see and recognize you as the pack leader bringing you a dead animal. Some experts say it's a throwback to their wolf ancestors who brought the fruits of the hunt to the alpha dog to show their loyalty. And so he wants to please you, his beloved pack leader, so he is giving you a gift.

6. SHE WANTS TO SLEEP IN YOUR BEDROOM OR ON YOUR BED.

If your dog is fond wanting to sleep on your bed, laps or on the couch with you then it's a sign that she really loves you. Dogs want to belong to a pack. It's a legacy of their wolf ancestors who traveled, hunted and slept in a lupine posse. If your dog wants to be in your bed, or at least in a dog bed in your room, it means you're in his pack and he doesn't want to be separated from you.

7. HE WAGS HIS TAIL TO THE RIGHT.

Dogs wag their tails for a lot of reasons, and they're not always positive. But an Italian neuroscientist and two veterinarians filmed the tail wag angles of dogs as they looked at their owners, a stranger, a dog they didn't know and a cat. The dogs wagged their tails to the right when they saw their owner. Everybody else got a wag to the left. So watch out if your dog is wagging his tail to the right, then he's saying he loves you.

8. SHE CUDDLES WITH YOU AFTER EATING.

An Author Gregory Berns in his book "How Dogs Love Us," writes that if your dog cuddles with you after she eats, it means you're the most important thing in the world to her besides eating. You and i both know how much dogs love food. So if she heads to your lap or comes to your feet after eating, take it as a sign of deep attachment.

9. HE LICKS YOU.

Just as mother dogs lick their puppies to dry/groom them, so it's a primal sign of affection when your dog licks you. He's getting pleasure out of it, too, because it makes his brain crank out endorphins, chemicals that make him calm and happy.

10. SHE FOLLOWS YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO.

If your dog follows you everywhere then it's most likely a sign that she love and adore you. When dogs interact with someone they like, the hormone oxytocin is released. Oxytocin is often referred to as the 'love hormone' and makes you feel that warm glow when you're around someone you like.

Sporidex(cephalexin) uses, dosage and side effects.

Hello! Everyone, today we will be making our very first review on Dogveranda and we will be talking about a very popular antibiotics medicine used by most Vets and breeders at home. Sporidex, have you ever heard of Sporidex before? Well if not, let's talk about it now.
Note: Sporidex and Cephalexin are same thing as we could be using any of these in this article.

ARTICLE OUTLINES;
  • What is Sporidex(Cephalexin)?
  • Uses
  • Dosage
  • Side Effects
  • overdose.

1. WHAT IS SPORIDEX(CEPHALEXIN)?

Sporidex/Cephalexin is a b4Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic that are given to dogs and cats to kill a range of bacteria and fight off infection. Humans and other animals can use it, too. It comes in tablet, liquid, or capsule forms. It’s sometimes spelled “cefalexin,” or it can be referred to by its brand names such as; Biocef, Sporidex, Keflex, Keftab, and Rilexine.

2. USES:

Sporidex is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, urinary tract, respiratory tract, bones and joints of dogs and cats. Sporidex causes bacteria to die by preventing them from forming cell wells and protective barriers.

3. DOSAGE:

Note: Sporidex is available by your vet prescription only. Do not use it without the approval of your vet.
The usual dosage of cephalexin in dogs is 10 to 15 mg for each pound of body weight. However, concentration of the drug can vary, and you should read the instructions and follow your vet’s advice thoroughly.

Liquid

The concentration of liquid formulas can vary. Most formulations contain 125mg (mostly used for puppies and smaller dogs) of active ingredient per 5 milliliters and others contain 250 mg per 5 milliliters.
example; if you were treating Staph with a dosage of 13.6 mg/lb you would need 0.54 mL of the 125 mg/5 mL solution or 0.27 mL of the 250 mg/5 mL solution for each pound your dog weighs.

How long should treatment last?

You should complete the full course of treatment recommended by your veterinarian or continue giving the medicine for minimum of 3 days after your dog begins feeling better (with the vet’s approval). Ending treatment too soon could cause the infection to return.

Example Dosage: A 50 pound(22.68kg) dog with ear infection could be given 500 milligrams every 12 hours (twice daily) for treating gram-positive infections.

4. SIDE EFFECTS:

Just as in humans, antibiotic treatment with drugs like cephalexin are usually well-tolerated. Cephalexin can interact with other medications, including the antibiotic penicillin and some blood thinners. These are some side effects to look out for, which include:

Most common

vomiting,
diarrhea, and
weight loss.
However, giving a dog food with the medication will often reduce these side effects. Other side effects include;
panting and drooling,
skin rashes,
hyperexcitability, and rapid breathing.

In some cases, a dog may experience kidney damage or decreased motor control. If symptoms become severe, then contact your veterinarian immediately.

5. Overdose:
Overdoses of cephalexin will not usually be harmful but could cause gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea and/or vomiting). Any dog who is sensitive to the drug could experience dangerous reactions following an overdose. If you suspect an overdose has been given (or has been accidentally ingested) call your veterinarian.
