DOSAGE:</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>Note:</b> Sporidex is available by your vet prescription only. Do not use it without the approval of your vet. </div><div>The usual dosage of cephalexin in dogs is 10 to 15 mg for each pound of body weight. However, concentration of the drug can vary, and you should read the instructions and follow your vet’s advice thoroughly.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Liquid</b></div><div><br></div><div>The concentration of liquid formulas can vary. Most formulations contain 125mg (mostly used for puppies and smaller dogs) of active ingredient per 5 milliliters and others contain 250 mg per 5 milliliters. </div><div><i><b>example;</b></i> if you were treating Staph with a dosage of 13.6 mg/lb you would need 0.54 mL of the 125 mg/5 mL solution or 0.27 mL of the 250 mg/5 mL solution for each pound your dog weighs.</div><div><br></div><div><b>How long should treatment last?</b></div><div><br></div><div>You should complete the full course of treatment recommended by your veterinarian or continue giving the medicine for minimum of 3 days after your dog begins feeling better (with the vet’s approval). SIDE EFFECTS:</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Just as in humans, antibiotic treatment with drugs like cephalexin are usually well-tolerated. Cephalexin can interact with other medications, including the antibiotic penicillin and some blood thinners. These are some side effects to look out for, which include:</div><div><br></div><div><b>Most common</b></div><div><br></div><div><b>vomiting,</b></div><div><b>diarrhea, and</b></div><div><b>weight loss. </b></div><div>However, giving a dog food with the medication will often reduce these side effects. Dog bites can cause infections that need to be treated with antibiotics.<br><br>There are steps you need to take right away to treat the wound and reduce the risk of infection. You’ll need professional medical attention the same day.<br><br><b>Treatment For Dog Bite:</b><br><ul><li>Press on the wound gently to cause some bleeding to help flush out as much bacteria as possible.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Place a clean towel over the injury to stop any bleeding.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Try to keep the injured area elevated.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Wash the bite carefully with soap and clean water.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Apply a sterile bandage to the wound.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Apply antibiotic ointment to the injury every day to prevent infection.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Change the bandage several times a day once your doctor has examined the wound.</li></ul><br><ul><li>Watch for signs of infection, including redness, swelling, increased pain and fever(if you notice these signs visit your doctor immediately).</li></ul><p>When visit the doctor, your doctor will want to know more about the dog that bit you and how it happened. He or she will also likely clean the wound again, apply antibiotic ointment and prescribe antibiotics, such as Augmentin, if there’s an infection concern.</p><p><br></p><p>Your doctor may also give you a booster shot if your tetanus vaccine is out-of-date.</p><p><br></p><p>Depending on the wound, your doctor may also recommend stitches.
